Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Hollywood Stars Promote Water Stewardship
Our brands are pretty famous, so maybe we are bit spoiled to be around their celebrity each day, but even we were star-struck when actors Edward Norton and Woody Harrelson visited our Houston bottling plant to tour BioViper.
What is Bioviper™? No, it’s not the next big movie featuring these two Hollywood stars, but an innovative way to treat the wastewater created when making our products.
In addition to bottling the brands you love, we use water to clean the production equipment and for basic utilities. When the water has run its course through the plant, it’s sent to Bioviper. Using Baswood Corporation’s patented technology, the Bioviper system filters out 75-90 percent of contaminants in the water before being treated by the city of Houston. This minimizes our burden on the city’s wastewater treatment operations and increases the city’s capacity to treat wastewater from other industrial customers. So even though we’re working to reduce our wastewater discharge, the Bioviper system helps make the wastewater we do discharge less of a burden for the communities in which we operate.
So why did two award-winning actors want to see this system in action? They’re invested in protecting the sustainability of our most vital resources. Edward Norton is the chairman of Baswood’s board and a well-known environmental activist, and Woody Harrelson is one of the company’s investors.
