Dr Pepper Snapple Group's Founding Flavors: Sun Drop
A lot of people drive around to think, and lucky for us, Charles Lazier was cruising around when he thought up the idea for Sun Drop. In 1949, while riding around St. Louis in the family car, Charles Lazier was hit with an idea. He quickly scribbled a recipe for a new soft drink on a small piece of paper, which he handed to his son, Charles Jr. The younger Lazier worked as a lab technician at his father's plant, and soon began work on the formula.
Sun Drop was launched regionally in 1951 and developed a passionate following, creating generations of deeply loyal Sun Drop drinkers who knew a good thing when they drank it. As time went on, flavors were added, the fan base grew and the secret of this indescribably delicious beverage could no longer be contained.
In 2011 Dr Pepper Snapple launched Sun Drop nationwide, sparking the interest of millenials thanks to a unique partnership with MTV and igniting a social media frenzy with its dance-centric ads. Now the Sun Drop is asking fans of the citrus-flavor drink, “What does #surprisinglygood taste like?”
